I am heartbroken to report the conclusion of our most recent production of Shakespeare’s King Lear. I could out-do Regan and Goneril in my effusive love for this show (only I would be true obviously). In this one the cast and crew achieved that beautiful level of cohesiveness that reminds me of why I fell in love with this collaborative art form in the first place. It was truly an amazing show and I could have watched it many many more times. Special thanks to Director Chris Kauffman for indulging my Norse/Medieval bent in the costuming department and Eric Berninghausen for the extra time that he gave me with the storm backdrop. Congrats to the cast and crew of another Gettysburg Great production! David Ives’ The School for Lies headed up our 2017/2018 season with thick satire and bawdy humor and a mid-seventeenth century setting that warmed my costumer’s heart. I had a great time designing and building this show which may explain the the startling stress-responses I suffered when the play came under some campus controversy. The details are too fraught with heartache to go into here but it is safe to say that the department will think twice before embarking on any show with a cross-dressing element (Sorry, Shakespeare. Maybe it is time for some rewrites?). Speaking of Shakespeare- King Lear is next on the docket!  Get your tickets now by calling the Majestic Theatre,  downtown Gettysburg, 717-337-8200.  Well the 2016-2017 season of Gettysburg College’s Owl and Nightingale players hit the ground running with a fabulous (totally unbiased adjective) rendition of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. In addition to my traditional roles as scenic painter and costume shop manager I was also given to opportunity to do the costume designs for this one. Despite my novice status the production went very smoothly in the costuming department and I have to say that I was super proud of it.
